Updating to a new model of a mobile device can come with a number of challenges. Many users just wait until they are eligible for an upgrade and then switch to the top model on the market. However, others will wait to check the rumor websites to see how close they are to the next release before taking the plunge.
For Apple users, this typically means waiting until the late fall when the company has traditionally released the new versions of the iPhone line. However, the latest rumors indicate that Apple could be trying to change that.
According to an article from 9to5Mac, later this week Apple will begin an "enormous" iPhone related event at its retail stores in an effort to help boost sales numbers. Citing an anonymous source with "knowledge of the initiative," it will begin on May 8 and see the company contacting upgrade eligible iPhone users with older models via email. They will be invited to come to their local Apple Store to update to an iPhone 5S or iPhone 5C.
Aside from improving sales figures, this is also a way to spread the word on the in-store trade-in program where customers can swap out their old devices for a new one and receive a discount on the new purchase.
If this turns out to be true, IT departments could suddenly find themselves with a handful of new devices to bring into the fold. With the help of an Apple support service, any company will be able to handle this with ease.
