Anyone who was around an Apple Retail Store or another technology outlet that sells the iPhone over the weekend no doubt saw the long lines of eager users looking to upgrade to the new device. This kind of excitement is expected during any Apple product launch, however, last weekend saw the company reach new heights.
According to a press release from the company, Apple sold more than 9 million iPhones (5s and 5c) in the first few days since the launch. CEO Tim Cook, who is quoted in the release, called it "our best iPhone launch yet" and the figures are a new record for first weekend sales.
"The demand for the new iPhones has been incredible, and while we've sold out of our initial supply of iPhone 5s, stores continue to receive new iPhone shipments regularly," Cook said. "We appreciate everyone's patience and are working hard to build enough new iPhones for everyone."
A TechCrunch article, which covered the weekend sales numbers, reported that predictions prior to the launch estimated sales between 5 and 8 million in sales across both devices. In most locations, the 5s sold out and customers may not be able to receive online orders until Octobers. The 5c remains in stock.
It is clear that the iPhone is a popular product and with 9 million new devices already in the hands of consumers, there is a good chance your IT department is dealing with an employee or two that wants to use their device for work-related functions. An IT consulting firm that specializes in Mac integration can be the best way to ensure this incorporation is handled properly.
