The world's most valuable technology company has partnered with the largest supplier of network equipment to streamline workplace communication. On August 31, Apple announced it would be teaming up with Cisco Systems Inc. to help iPad and iPhone users communicate more effectively on corporate networks where Cisco gear is widely used.
More and more businesses have placed iOS devices, which many of their employees already own and use, at the center of their mobile strategy, while Cisco's products have reigned supreme in traditional offices for years. The partnership between these technology titans connects popular personal and enterprise devices for a more efficient workplace, as they look to provide employees a seamless experience between their office phones and technology and their personal mobile devices. For example, the iOS "fast lane" will make it easier for Apple device users to take advantage of Cisco's collaboration services, such as Web- and video-conferencing on their mobile devices, while also allowing them to integrate their phones' address books with Cisco's desk phones.
"Nearly every Fortune 500 and Global 500 company today has put iOS at the center of their mobile strategy," said Tim Cook, Apple's CEO, in a press release. "iPhone and iPad have become essential tools for the modern workforce and are changing the way work gets done. Together with Cisco, we believe we can give businesses the tools to maximize the potential of iOS and help employees become even more productive using the devices they already love."
This move represents the latest in a string of recent Apple ventures into the enterprise market to combat slowing iPad sales. Last year, Apple and IBM worked together to create workplace apps, and more recently Apple developed a sales program that helps companies create and bundle apps for small businesses.
