We are just under a month away from the 2014 edition of Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference. This is the company's biggest annual event where the organization has unveiled some groundbreaking software, including the latest versions of the desktop and mobile operating systems, and traditionally includes updates to at least one of the hardware lines.
Last year, WWDC was the first time the public got to see iOS 7 and Mac OS X Mavericks, though both were released several months later. The radically redesigned Mac Pro was also unveiled for the first time.
As the 2014 event gets closer, what can the tech community expect?
A recent article from Mac Rumors recapped the topics that Apple CEO Tim Cook could touch on during his June 2 keynote address. These include:
- Traditional software updates – WWDC is all about software so it would unusual if both iOS 8 and OS X 10.10 are not previewed and put into a www. There is little known about the future of the desktop operating system, but there are some rumors about iOS 8 which include Siri and Maps improvements and third party app integration, the "Healthbook" app and a mobile payment application.
- Apple TV and Mac Mini – When it comes to hardware redesigns there are two projects at the top of the list. It has been a while since either of these products has received an overhaul and both are due. Since neither of these would be big enough news for a single event, WWDC is the perfect time for an unveiling.
- New product lines – Though less likely, no Apple press rumor is complete without speculation of the iWatch. There is also speculation of a new 12-inch Retina Macbook.
