The term "enterprise mobility" has evolved from something that was spoken in passing to become the heart of many IT boardroom meetings. While the BlackBerry and Palm Pilot helped create the idea at the start of the new millennium, Apple perfected it with the iPhone and iPad. Now Google and Microsoft are also trying to get involved in the market and it has created an interesting landscape.
A recent article from CITEworld examined the current mobile enterprise marketplace. Over the last few months, the major mobile companies held developer conferences and announced business specific features. All of them are also taking different approaches to the enterprise market.
For Apple, they have the role of "the incumbent." With the iPad and the iPhone, the company has already secured a majority of the market. Paired with a closed ecosystem that is more resistant to malware and the customer satisfaction that Apple provides, it is easy to see why companies have embraced the solutions.
"Being the incumbent in the race, Apple also has the advantage of inertia — organizations that have managed to standardize around iOS are likely to see an advantage in staying the course," the article reads. "Part of that is because the institutional knowledge and solutions to secure and integrate iOS are already present, which means generally lower overhead in mandating or preferring iOS over other platforms."
With the help of a Mac consulting firm, any company will be able to improve overall operations and better add mobile solutions to the current IT infrastructure.
